It was so exciting to see 60 women gathering for one of the NEWS events and being so interested and committed to the regeneration of Bradford – taking the perception of the Bradford business community and discussing how to take that forward. Bradford Chamber Chief Executive Sandy Needham chaired the event which was enjoyed by all who attended.
The main speakers were Dan East from Invest in Bradford who talked about the development of the new website being used to promote Bradford as a place to work and live. This has had an element of success with enquiries about the district and places to live.
Jane Vincent from Candlelisa Ltd was a delight, a Bradford born woman who showed her passion for the place and people in the stories about the growth of her businesses here. She also talked about the future in her quest to hold a Positive Bradford Day which will happen next year. She has already got the support of a number of Bradford based companies and key influencers in the district. Jane would like more help so that all the schools and voluntary organisations as well as large numbers of the businesses will take part.

The final guest was Councillor David Green who is responsible for the Portfolio for Regeneration. He listened to the comments and questions from the groups in the room and responded with candour. He showed his commitment to developing Bradford to show the different facets it has to offer as a city with beautiful buildings, a vibrant business community both in the city and rural communities, interesting and contrasting countryside attracting tourism and the recent accolade as the city of film.
He talked of his concern for the people, the transport, the empty retail site and the changes already taking place which is affecting the traffic in the city centre at the moment.
Councillor Green did not address all the questions but has agreed to look at the lists of questions produced by the groups at the event which will be sent to him.
Thanks to the Chamber staff who helped to organise and participate in the event, the staff at the Dubrovnik Hotel and to Vera Woodhead Edimo Coaching who helped with the group work. It was a fantastic morning. |
